Access Control

Underlying all access control applications is a facility for permitting or denying to a person the use of, or access to, a particular resource. These resources can be broadly divided into physical (e.g. building, room), logical (e.g. computer logon, bank account) or digital (e.g. signing a private text document, transaction authorisation).

Iris recognition is an attractive and economic biometric mode for Access Control because it offers hands-free, non-contact user interaction via simple digital photographic imaging of the front of the eye. With well designed capture equipment and high performance algorithms, the user experience can be almost effortless as well as secure. Iris recognition is a strong biometric which in very many use cases needs no prior identity claim, for example there is no need to present a smart card, PIN or prox card. Enrolled users are uniquely identified from their irises.
